Pakistani Culture

The lady in the right clearly depicts how a Pakistani woman is portrayed around the globe in the present age, bt where on earth has those “kurta, shalwar and sheehsay wali chaadar” disappeared, wasn’t that our heritage? Is this the way our culture was meant to be, isn’t it considered to be blind pursuit of the western trends?
Why are we following the things that are not meant for us, here talking bout pakistani culture, or the way a pakistani girl should dress up doesnt at all means that she should be in a black gown, all covered up till only here eyes are visible, the way hijab is described in Quran doesnt at all means that a girl should compulsorily be in a skarf, rather she can cover her head n hair by possibly anything, and the concept of abaya n all too explains that a woman should b dressed up in a manner that she doesnt make herself appealing to the market, or seeming to be wandering as their at home, it doesnt explains any where that she should certainly be in a black gown. Its just coz of some misconceptions that has led to such confusions not only between Muslims but also the manner in which Muslims are being presented in the outer world.

Now my question here is that Is this the way we expect our women to dress up? Do we expect to see such a girl to be roaming around the streets? Would any of us expect our mothers, daughters, sisters or wives to dress up following this culture? Then why has our media gone so far showing the stuff that at all isnt representing what we are? Who is responsible for all this? The governments, the channel heads, or the people? Is this how our media should be show casting our culture, is it representing the true Pakistani heritage in the best possible ways or it seems to be influenced by the western culture. As all of the people that are appearing on our channels deeply marks the state of western influence over them, but our media wasn’t like dis at all just 5-6 years back, then what has happened to our dramas? what has happened to our cultural values? have we forgotten it all?

Is it necessary to appear on screen pretending to be as we are one of the western nations, preparing award shows that portray us as some other state. Was this the word on which Pakistan was battled for, was this supposed to be the end after 60 years of independence that we become part of the same thing from which we unchained oursleves long ago. For progress and development is it compulsory to take off our clothes and start speaking junk not just about anything but on our country as well, where has prode gone? where has the pride of being a Pakistani and a Muslim gone ?
Following some other culture isnt bad, unless you follow the rules of being the member of an Islamic State as well as representing yourself as a Muslim, why does the other nations now point us on being Muslims, thanks to the growing Media and Osama Bin Laden, one has made us a terrorist and other a social fool. Spending millions over mobile adds where the public doesnt have anything to eat 3 days time a day, how could they possibly spend on mob credits. Is this marketting? Or is it like chasing the bandwagon? Its almost perplexing to see all this happening and no thought about it. Why is this being the only part that we have to follow, what about science and tecnology, i know we are low at the resource level but when there can be done so much for TV Channels then why not for libraries and computer institutes, if we can collabrate together for TV Soaps then why not in this?

The 24/7 running dramas that isn’t the way we have our family values, teaching our young and old both at the same time about plotting schemes, making false relationships, degrading family values and many more other things that werent part of us before. Our family values arent this as it is being showed, its simply copying and pasting some other stuff upon stuff without any inspection or scrutinising what effect they would possibly cause on our nation and the changes are being felt. Young girls ruining theirself just to look like a model neither realising the fact that that’s TV, that world isnt real and in fact those innocent girls are far better then them. If channels could become a bit true meaning playing a sincere role in character building and nation building as well.

I still belive the same that following other cultures isnt a bad thing unless it keeps u within ur boundaries, and disaster happens when one forgets what he/she is, and start following blindly everything that leads to a stage where the conseqeunce is losing ur ID there is a famous urdu quote stating “Kawwa chala Hans ke chal aur apni chal bhe bhool gaya”

    Very well said!

Let me tell you, this is not happening only in Pakistan, but all over the Muslim World.

    We can’t do anything, really.

There was a huge poster along the road side. I saw a picture of a lady, she was posing, and at the corner, it was written “McDonalds”. She had no meal in her hand, nothing at all. There was no french fries. Nothing. Just the lady posing as if she’s free on every deal.

The status of women was very low before Islam, and after Islam they were given good status, and value.
But now, these people have forgotten Islam, and they say, a women should be free. Well, SHE IS FREE, but she’s just for the show, for use in advertisements, and merely for fun and entertainment.

If they could, they might have excluded the word “Modesty” from English Dictionary.

    This is nothing but impudicity.

Well sis, seriously these things sometimes hurt me. These womens sale themselves just for money. What a shame!

You know, today’s women is back to old days of “Zamana-e-Jaheliat” but they call themselves modern. Huh! These kind of people are the biggest fools that I have ever seen in my whole life. lols…
Because they are saying that naked kind of dressing is modernism.
It means these people don’t know about modern world. The real modernism.

Don’t call urself modern if u wear some new kind of fashion.
Call urself modern if u have the power of technology. That’s the real modernism.
Call urself modern if u have a desktop PC in home connected through a wireless link with TabletPC or PocketPC in ur hands and u r accessing ur files from ur desktop PC anywhere outside ur home.
Call urself modern if u or ur country have airplanes having server machines connected through satellite for internet access and phone calls over VOIP n plus those machines r providing huge entertainment for passengers.
Call urself modern if ur country have shopping stores directly connected to product vendors through wired/wireless networks. The products going out from the store is scanned n its quantity is automatically deducted from the store’s database. When that quantity is below some value, an automatic mail is generated n send to vendor by enterprise systems. So new delievry is recieved without any human’s interaction.

These r few examples of modern world n I explained here for those who call themselves just by wearing new fashion n specially those womens love to show their body n think that they r modern. lols…

Agree with fadey! When it comes to modernism… islam is the most modern religion of all… the human rights charter comes from islamic values, woman’s right to divorce is not in another religion now western countries have laws for that, woman’s right to inheritence….all these were given by islam but the woman today is still deprived of these rights… modernism is not about wearing short clothes…its whatever you wear, the fabric should be of quality made in ur own country using latest machinery……… going out half-naked, smoking, doping is not modernism…its retrogression!

Well most of the instances where women were posing half naked in yr post were in ads… we have to understand that purely on an advertising basis, sex sells.. thus it is now being used here as it has been in other parts of the world.

Whether it is right of us to do this with our culture is a whole another discussion, i find it perverted and humiliating yes, but this is what sells…and it is sad that such is the case in our country as well. As for aping the west? we have taken that art to a whole new level…

  5. . aB . says:

As they say, “Aap nay meray dil ki baat kar di”…. right on…

What is even more unfortunate is that these dresses are now visible even on streets… it’s sad… you go to a wedding function or a party and you will see all of these there…

I am myself working on a similar feature and hopefully will have it up soon…

    Good job…

  6. NaVeed says:

the only best way to prevent this is that we the Muslim stick to what islam has taught us and the parents for all these younger generation get alil more responsible and stop them from doing all will do the trick..as simple as it is, but the sad thing is that i hve seen many parents in such situation too even in their old ages 😦

  7. Ahmed Mujtaba says:

It’s not only the television networks, but there are different websites trying to ruin the historical, modest culture of Pakistan.
    Get this gloop off me

Well, let’s speak the truth, there are some bogies jeune filles around our country, and they are constantly growing, due to overwhelming western 18 rated bomb.

  8. Nikki says:

well if it were only for marketting as in “Oppostie Sex Sells” if the case is closed at the opposite sex then why not present the Sex in a way that isnt offensive..would a girl in appropriate dressing cldnt sell anythng??

It’s coz of US that this virus is increseaing tremendously all over, the majority doesnt wear dresses made by such designers, sme cant afford it and sme cant accept it…and the fact is the less it is the expensive it is and the more it is the most outdated it is….

  9. Nikki says:

and does modernistaion really comes from marketting in such a way… i mean we have taken such tips from the outter world why not for other business tactics??

my question is “IS Modernisation in Pakistan only limited on Fashion accessories?? “

faisalk said: we have to understand that purely on an advertising basis, sex sells..

lols… it’s completey stupid to say that if some corporation show naked girls in their advertisements, their sales will increase 😛
First of all no one is so stupid that they will buy useless products only on the basis of sexual advertisements. People buy products on the basis of quality.

I accept advertisements have great effect on product’s sales but before that product must contain some quality n secondly advertisements must be sensible. They must show n prove how their product is useful n how it can solve ur problems. I can tell u hundreds of decent advertisements which r really great n presents the product in great way without using any sex kind of thing.

The truth is that these kind of things will happen n even we can’t stop it. U may be thinking why?
Just because this is one of the signs of qayamat. Womens will doing the hijab.
But hey, it doesn’t mean we must stop saying our womens to do hijab.
    🙂
